Embodyment Yoga Therapy

What Is Embodyment

Easier with more benefits than a yoga class, and deeper relaxation than a massage

Embodyment is a gift handed down to us by our teacher, the founder of Svaroopa® yoga, Swami Nirmalananda (formerly, Rama Berch). It incorporates the deepest elements of Svaroopa® yoga. In a one-hour one-on-one session, your therapist works to facilitate the release of deeply-held tensions in your body. An Embodyment session is deeply relaxing, restorative and transformative. You receive benefits equivalent to what several yoga classes might bring.

What an Embodyment Session Is Like

The session begins with you resting in a fully-supported relaxation pose (called shavasana). Your therapist makes sure you are comfortable, offering you gentle adjustments to deepen your relaxation. Then, your therapist applies a simple but profoundly effective hands-on technique that enables your whole body to release deeply-held tensions, especially those held in the muscles along the base of the spine. Near the end of the session, to carry the changes through the rest of the spine, the therapist massages your back muscles along both sides of your spine, from the base of the spine toward the neck and shoulders.

What You Will Experience Afterward

As with any other type of therapy, the response is unique to each individual. However, we often hear clients say things such as that they feel taller, lighter, or, as one client put it, “aerated.” Another client remarked that it feels like “the taste of the very best chocolate.” Another said it was like “the fragrance of freshly baked bread.” Still another: “I never knew I could feel this relaxed!”

For a while after the session, to let the benefits take hold, we recommend you keep a light schedule, with no heavy physical work or exercise. This also gives you the opportunity to become aware of subtle changes that might continue.

How Often Should You Receive an Embodyment Session?

This depends on your needs.

If you are looking to deepen your practice and spiritual connection, schedule an Embodyment as often as you like. Many of our students receive sessions regularly, from once a week to once every four to six weeks. Ideally, we recommend at least one session every two to four weeks, especially for those of you practicing at the deeper, experienced and advanced levels.

If you are physically challenged by a particular injury or ailment, or feeling “stuck” physically, emotionally or even spiritually, we recommend a special series of sessions called “overlap healing.” These consist of up to ten sessions over a two to three week period, in addition to your regular yoga classes.

How Much Is a Session?

A single Embodyment session is $70. You can purchase a series of sessions at a discount.

It gives us a great pleasure to be able to share this form of therapy. We wish you to experience for yourself how Embodyment can bring you the deepest, most transformative benefits of yoga.

Testimonial

“Since I started the Embodyment sessions a few months ago, I have noticed a lot of changes… I always felt great after the experience and noticed I slept better. It seems to make my body lighter, and I have more confidence in doing my yoga poses. I feel the poses more deeply. I am able to move my body better with more grace.

I don’t sweat the small things as much. It has helped me let things go and concentrate on the day and not always ask myself ‘what if?’. It has helped me become more grateful for all that I have and for my health, friends and family. I have become more understanding with people. A lot of this comes with the help of yoga classes in combination with my Embodyment sessions. Embodyments have really helped my yoga practice…” ~ Kathy B, Warren
